A Large Hellenistic Terracotta Statue of a Seated Woman

A large Hellenistic terracotta statue of a fashionable lady seated on a rockery. The figure, wearing a closely fitting himation, is seated on a rockery above a scalloped shelled fountain. Her hair is parted in the middle, wearing a high crown, and very well modeled features. A beautiful examples of a figural composition. These finely moulded figures, often highly decorated, rose in popularity during the 4th and 3rd centuries B.C. Common themes include fashionable women, gods and goddesses, heroic athletes, and bacchanalian merriment.
