This charming tripod bowl combines the functionality of a bowl with the beauty of a work of art. The bowl rests on three legs that are designed in the image of monkey heads. Each is holding a small clay ball inside which make a distinct rattling sound when moved. The earthenware is painted in a deep saffron color and then highlighted by beautiful geometric designs. The inside of the bowl is painted a deep russet red. Along the edges of the bowl, a series of lines in various colors has been painted, becoming thinner as they near the center of the bowl. In the center appears a frog, painted and decorated with small dots to create the surface of the skin. Clearly, with this imagery in mind, the bowl was meant to be used expressly in important ceremonies and other functions yet its beauty today demands no function.
