Though in fragmentary condition, there is no mistaking the power and energy of this little votive. It depicts a muscular man who appears to be chanting as he looks heavenward. No doubt it was originally offered as a votive at some Mayan shrine, in hopes of attracting the favorable attention of the gods. What would that Ancient Mayan votary have wished for? A life of health, wealth, and happiness? Is the life we want for ourselves today so very different? Across the ages we find we have much in common with the people of a vanished culture.
