This piece came from the corner of a structure made from limestone, which was used as one of the building blocks for Egyptian architecture. Relief was a popular medium in Egyptian architecture as the walls included scenes that were of high cultural and spiritual importance. It is possible that this carving reveals a glimpse of a specific narrative inside an important structure. Regardless, the refinement in the technique demonstrates the great craftsmanship employed by Egyptians at this time. With its clean lines and added details, this piece displays great sophistication and effort as this is only a fragment of the greater structure it came from.
