Though Cocle ceramics radiate powerful magic, their intentions are almost always benevolent. The central image on this fascinating bowl depicts the so-called “crocodile god,” one of the major figures in the Cocle pantheon. Part man, part reptile, the god confronts us with sharp teeth, surrounded by spiny darts. Yet, these armaments seem aimed only at evil spirits. Those respectful of the god’s power and pure of heart can approach without fear. HT. 14.5cm(5 3/4IN): DIAM. 15.5cm(10IN)
