Sudhanakumara is one of the acolytes of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara (Guanyin) and is paired with Dragon Girl (Longnü). This configuration is coherent with the traditional Hindu-Buddhist arrangement of a master as the central figure and two disciples by his or her side. His hands are usually depicted in worship gesture, highlighting his identity as a disciple.
This sculpture depicts Sudhanakumara in an approachable way. The clothings are simplisitc, hardly decorated. Tilting his hands slightly away from the centre of his body, his entire outlook, coupled with his facial features, is amiable and child-like. – (HK.2016)
