Red concentric circles encompass the face of this dish. The red bands that embellish this fine example of classical pottery vary in thickness. The pedestal that supports the shallow dish is also bound by two red bands, exhibiting the simple decorative style consistent throughout the entire composition. The silhouette of this dish represents the elegant proportions of Southern Italian pottery. This fine ceramic ware suggests by its refined nature it belonged to an upper class household, perhaps used to burn incense within its shallow bowl. – (PF.5387)
